We are expanding and looking for an experienced Forest School and Outdoor Learning Team Leader to join our growing provision with a passion for supporting children and young people in delivering quality services. Primarily based in Leeds and Bradford, we are rapidly growing into other areas. We’re looking for a Forest School and Outdoor Learning Team Leader to join and support our core team and to support the implementation of our vision across our growing network.

The Role

GoWild Outdoors has developed a reputation for delivering high quality Forest School and Outdoor Learning provisions across the Yorkshire area and further.

The aim of our provision is to engage, develop and empower children and young people to develop their social and emotional capabilities and improve their engagement with learning through nature-based activities and outdoor experiences.

We are looking for a Forest School and Outdoor Learning Team Leader to support the senior leadership team and deliver sessions as and when required. As a team leader your time will be

split between overseeing our small team of instructors, in setting clear goals, motivating the team, fostering communication and managing performance.

You will be responsible for organising tasks, timetables, delegating work, and ensuring the team has the resources needed to succeed.

You will also be expected to deliver sessions as and when required to support the growth of the business, in line with our purposeful approach that uses activities and resources to enhance (curriculum) learning, mental health and wellbeing, and environmental awareness.

Other roles and responsibilities will be required as directed by the Director.

• Assessing team performance and providing feedback.

• Assisting with hiring and training.

• Assisting with the daily operation of the organisation.

• Show commitment to safe working practice and use of risk assessments to support effective learning and safeguarding.

Job specifications

Required:

• Forest School Level 3 or equivalent outdoor learning/instructor qualification.

• Proven experience as a team leader in forest school or other outdoor education setting.

• Confident in outdoor education

• Ability to lead and manage a team effectively

• A positive attitude, reliability, and a genuine passion for trees and the outdoors

• Recent and significant experience in leading Forest School and/or outdoor learning sessions with children of a range of ages in an outdoor environment and a passion for outdoor learning.

• Ability and experience of running outdoor learning curriculum sessions

• Ability to work with full class sizes, when required.

• To be flexible, sometimes we are required to work some weekends or have longer days in peak season.

• Hold a current driving licence.

• Be committed to the safety and welfare of those in their care and uphold all safeguarding responsibilities.

• Have a clear understanding and experience of managing/ supporting challenging behaviour in a positive manner.

• Have the ability to support and inspire children and encourage them to engage with learning opportunities.

• Understand the different ways in which children learn and be able to adapt methods to meet the individual needs of each learner.

• Be able to build and sustain effective working relationships with learners, colleagues, schools, and families (as appropriate).

• Demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills.

• Demonstrate a positive commitment to own personal development.

• Demonstrate effective administration and communication skills.

Desirable:

• Experience working with learners with SEND/SEMH.

• Experience working with secondary school children.

• Current Outdoor first aid certificate

• Ability to positively influence the practice of others.

• Evidence of ongoing personal professional development Forest School or Outdoor Learning qualification.

• Hold a current enhanced DBS certificate and/or DBS on the update service

• A positive approach to continuous professional development.

• Ability and experience of working with adults and other groups.
