Introduction to Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning experiences - hands-on activities for developing minds and bodies
At GoWild Outdoors we believe through integrating learning and outdoor experiences; whether through play in the immediate grounds or adventures further afield, provides relevance and depth to the curriculum in ways that are difficult to achieve indoors.
Learning outdoors can be enjoyable, creative, challenging, and adventurous and helps children and young people learn by experience and grow as confident and responsible citizens who value and appreciate the natural world.
At GoWild Outdoors we are experienced and have worked in many schools and therefore have a good understanding of the demands of the National curriculum. Our outdoor learning approach is a practical hands-on experience that is aimed at helping to facilitate the desired learning objectives or standards that schools and teachers want students to achieve.
Different outdoor learning experiences offer opportunities for personal and learning skills development in areas such as communication, problem-solving, information technology, working with others, and thinking skills.
Educational contributions of outdoor learning
Learning in the outdoors can make significant contributions to literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing.
In literacy there are opportunities to use different texts: the spoken word, charts, maps, timetables, and instructions.
In numeracy there are opportunities to measure angles and calculate bearings and journey times.
The benefits to personal health and wellbeing
In health and wellbeing there are opportunities to become physically active in alternative ways and to improve emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Therefore, outdoor learning offers many opportunities for learners to deepen and contextualise their understanding within curriculum areas, and for linking learning across the curriculum in different contexts and at all levels.
There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.
GoWild sessions run in all weathers (the only weather that may put a stop to sessions are lightning and extremely high wind).
