Little Gowild Outdoorer's
Explore nature with our Parent and Toddler Groups in Leeds and Bradford
Forest school activities make great outdoor activities for toddlers. They are great for engaging them with the natural world around them. They can involve learning about nature, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, creative play, and language development.
These sessions are run during term time and also in the half-term holidays.
Sessions cost just £6.50 for an adult and child, with £3 extra for a sibling, per session.
Run by an experienced forest school leader, who is an early years specialist the sessions are aimed at engaging the toddlers and their grown-ups. Every session is different and includes a themed book, games, free play, craft activities, and songs. We also include crumpets and hot chocolate!
Our carefully selected sites lend themselves perfectly to a range of Forest School activities for toddlers and their parents/carers to get involved in. They are also the perfect setting to meet other parents and have a good natter and a cuppa round the campfire!
These sessions are suitable for children from birth to age 5 (although most parents choose to wait until their children are walking).
Examples of experiences include:
- Mud kitchen play
- Imaginative play with sticks
- Loose parts play
- Sensory play
- Climbing & swinging
- Digging
- Mixing ingredients for campfire cooking
- Making dens
- Putting up shelters
- Songs, stories & games
- Mindfulness exercises
- Using ropes and string e.g. pulling logs, tying knots
- Floating objects
There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.
Our Forest activity sessions run in all weathers (the only weather that may put a stop to sessions are lightening and extremely high wind).
To have a positive experience, children need to be dressed appropriately, so old, inexpensive clothes are most suitable.
These guidelines should help:
- Waterproof Jacket & Trousers
- All-in-one waterproofs are very useful, especially for younger children.
- Layers – more in winter (2 isn’t enough!)
- Long trousers (to avoid stinging nettles and scratching hazards)
- Wellies/other waterproof boots/strong shoes/trainers suitable for all seasons.
- Woolly hat, gloves & scarf
- Sun hat (in summer/sunny weather)
We have a duty of care for your child and we make every attempt to ensure that they are dressed appropriately (using spare resources where possible). However, we will not be able to take children if they are inadequately dressed.
